Take on your racing heroes at charity karting event
How would you fancy the chance to test your driving skills against the likes of Andy Priaulx, Robbie Kerr, Tom Kristensen or Louise Goodman?
The opportunity is yours for £300 if you sign up for a charity karting event taking place at this year’s Autosport International show at Birmingham’s NEC on January 9 and aiming to raise more than £50,000.
Organised by F1 and sports car racer David Brabham, the BP Ultimate Celebrity Karting Challenge is raising money for organisations including Richard Burns Foundation, the Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester and homelessness charity Emmaus Hampshire with its innovative Green Roof project.
According to organisers, a handful of the 32 public places are still available, so you’ll need to act quickly. To find out more, contact organiser Bill Williams at bill@racing4charity.com or call 07712 578263.
Drivers confirmed as taking part include Audi aces Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela, also a former BTCC racer. Familiar names from British motorsport include Katherine Legge, Duncan Tappy, Adam Carroll, James Jakes, Jon Lancaster and Sam Bird.
As well as competing in the televised event, participants will also get two Autosport International entrance tickets for Friday 9 January - a trade day that is not normally open to the public, meaning you get an exclusive sneak preview of the show as well as the satisfaction of supporting good causes.
David Brabham said of the event: “I am delighted with the response from such high-calibre drivers for this year’s BP Ultimate Charity Karting Challenge. This event truly amazes me.
“We raised nearly £50,000 last year and January’s race is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.
“Despite the current financial situation, it’s fantastic to see that the sport and public alike are still committed to this event and to helping to raise money for some very worthy causes. It should be a fantastic event.”
Autosport International is open to the public on Saturday January 10 and Sunday January 11. For tickets visit http://www.autosport-international.com or call 0844 579 3188. Adult tickets start at £29 per day with children’s tickets costing £19.
